Established in 1925, Emily Carr University of Art + Design is a learning community devoted to excellence and innovation in visual arts, media arts, and design. The University is ranked as the top university in Canada for art and design, and 24th in the world. It is a worldwide centre of excellence in trans-disciplinary, inclusive, and socially engaged art and design education and research, and is the only accredited public university in British Columbia solely devoted to the creative sector. Emily Carr offers certificate and undergraduate programs that are globally recognized as central to their communities of practice, and graduate programs and research agendas that shape new and emerging practices and scholarship.
The University’s new, state-of-the-art campus is the first purpose-built centre for visual arts, design and media arts education and research in Canada. It is home to more than 1,800 FTE students enrolled in graduate and undergraduate programs, and thousands more taking workshops, certificate programs and individual courses, supported by more than 400 faculty and staff.
As President and Vice Chancellor, you will work with the diverse constituencies of the University to maintain its core strengths while developing its emerging potential. With inclusive, progressive leadership, you will foster interconnection and interdisciplinary collaboration, building relationships internally and with Emily Carr’s broader communities, including the arts community and Indigenous peoples. A passionate voice for the University, you will champion fundraising efforts with donors and industry and be an advocate with governments at all levels. With a deep affinity for art and design culture, you will support a creative, expressive, and dedicated faculty, staff, and student body, continuing to develop the University’s reputation and scholarly impact.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated past commitment and passion for the creative industries and proven leadership experience in academic or other related settings. A collaborative and strategic leader, the new President will be a champion for Emily Carr University, for education and research in the creative fields, and for the University’s unique contributions to the creative sector, economy, and local and global communities.

The expected salary range for the position is $280,000 - $295,000.
